GOES-8 through GOES-14
Sounder Spectral Response Functions

Sets of spectral response functions (SRFs) are available for
the each of the sounders on GOES-8 through GOES-14. These sets
were provided by ITT, the instruments' manufacturer. The contents of
the first set, "currently
operational," are the SRFs that have been used over the lifetimes of sounders
for operational production of data products at NESDIS. The second set, "updated," were
provided by ITT more recently and are believed to represent more accurately
the true SRFs of the instruments. Currently, NESDIS does not plan to switch
to the updated SRFs
in its processing, because we believe that the inconvenience
and magnitude of the effort to do so outweighs the expected benefit of
the small improvements that might be realized in product performance. Nonetheless,
the new
SRFs are being made available here to the user community.
